"paint as a means to express themselves without adding any or too much content"
"no right or wrong"
"abstraction meant freedom of choice, meant experimenting"
"Ultimately I was to experiment, play, break boundaries"
freedom in not knowing what you're doing, also freedom in knowing exactly what you are doing - (not own words)
"I love the 'not knowing where it'll take me'. It's a challenge. I struggle. I despair, I get anxious but by trying to overcome those worries I experience a big thrill and I see it as an achievement as such."
"make room for the unknown"
"I love the surprise within the working process even though it might not always be pleasant"
tries hard to stay "open", exciting and experimental, if it doesn't work she always has a comfort zone, a reliable set of rules she can do if "nothing else works"
Talks about the sublime and it's relation to abstract art - something I don't necessarily want to delve in to
Recently started working with oil paint, had become a "master of acrylic paint", knew it too well. Was no longer experimental as knew exactly what it would do. Hated oil paint at first but grew to love it. When using acrylics paints in layers
On working big: huge formats can be challenging, had to use a chair to reach the top of one piece. "Small formats can be challenging too as I need to control my actions much more" - (try this in my work to have time away from working big). "Bigger formats on the other hand allow me to 'slap the paint' on, I have more freedom to experiment, leave the canvas 'empty' on certain areas."
"more of a dialogue with the painting" becomes a being, an entity, a presence.
